Pulsating Sac Of Sound - 11.19.08

Heck of a day, heck of a month...November is flying by with no slow down in sight! Not sure if I'll be on the air next Wednesday (Thanksgiving Eve) since yours truly has to arise at 3am for a flight out of Portland the following morning. It'll be a Zombie Thanksgiving for sure...anyhow, blah blah. Tonight's show is brought to you courtesy of me and my friend "The Genius Playlist." "What's that?" you ask. "Genius Playlist" is a little feature in iTunes that lets you select a song and then generate an automatic playlist based on the song type, genre, bpm, etc. It's very cool and usually produces surprising results. I've come to enjoy it immensely since it can be hard to sift through 45,000 songs looking for songs with similar moods, tonality and tempo. It's helped my mix-making mojo go from "not bad" to "boing!" Tonight's show will be better than a 200 foot-tall Dick Cheney vomiting cash and saliva like a rotating sprinkler while the song "I Love Rock 'N Roll" blares from a 35-foot speaker on his evil white ass.

DJ Throatslice "It Creeps!"

Okay, so I'm here to plug DJ Throatslice's new album "It Creeps!" This is kind of cheesy since it's my own music, but I'll make an attempt to sway you to listen. I've been working under the moniker of DJ Throatslice for several years now. Ever since I got some drum beat creation software for my old Mac G4 Cube back in Boston, I've been mixing up techno beats and scary Halloween samples and audio. Some of my songs contain samples from old Halloween records from the 60's and 70's and other songs are entirely my music save for the drum samples. I'd say "It Creeps!" is my favorite album thus far because I really dug into what I love and got to play the bass, mini-Korg keyboard, a midi keyboard, vocals, noises and live audio samples from outside my home.

Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House!

Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House is finally remastered and released in digital format! I've been waiting for this since the 90's when CDs became popular. I asked myself "why why why hasn't this been released on CD?" and my answer is finally silenced. Kudos to Apple for carrying this classic Walt Disney Halloween album on iTunes! Halloween will be extra special this year - and in high quality sound! I used to listen to the LP in my bedroom every Halloween season and turn out the lights to try to spook myself. My dad would play this album out the window on Halloween night to scare trick or treaters.

Tonight's Show - 4.22.08

Tonight's radio show is all about getting from there to here. It's called "Origins" and it is simply a way to show you how good music influences more good music. Each song played is followed by the original that inspired it. This means that it is either a blatant sample of an older song, a cover, or a reimagining of that classic song. Some of these songs have brilliant samples and make a great song a catchy hit. Most of these tracks are hip-hop since the genre itself is all about sampling everything and making it danceable. Hope you enjoy!
